This film screening presents a diverse collection of feature and short films made within the last two years by independent and underground filmmakers in China, curated, selected and invited by Jinglu Ji exploring the theme of :
"Excluded Lives": focusing on individuals often marginalized by society, including those experiencing homelessness, addiction, and post-prison life. The program aims to give voice to those whose stories are often overlooked, creating an opportunity for reflection on the broader societal issues they face.
The Beat Generation – This segment explores the challenges faced by Gen Z and the COVID-era youth in China, including unemployment, mental illness, societal pressures, and an unstable lifestyle.
House as a Mirror of Self – This screening examines how home and personal spaces play a vital role in shaping memory, identity, relationships, and personal growth.
As Heaven as Hell – A poignant collection of films that vulnerably tackle themes of death, loss, and grief, offering intimate explorations of life's inevitable transitions.
Dear Caregivers – Featuring heroic women who provide care for their loved ones, this segment highlights the emotional and physical challenges of caregiving, including caring for the ill, the elderly, and children.
The screening will take a place in @A Space Gallery in Brooklyn in various weekends from January 2025 to March 2025
